After serial number 540773 on 11-26-68 a new serial number block started and shared with Semi-Automatic model 742. A serial number is printed on the receiver of each Remington rifle or shotgun, provided it's a newer model. You can still use the two-letter code on the barrel of the rifle or shotgun to look up the firearm's age. The following serial number information is for Remingtion firearms manufactured after 1921. Remingtons manufactured after 1921 have a code located on the left side of the barrel near the frame that identifies the year and month of manufacture. The following letters correspond to the months of the year, for example B=January, L= February and so on.

The model 1100 holds the record for the most shells fired out of an semi auto shotgun without malfunction or cleaning, set in 1978 with a record of over 24,000 rounds fired.

With a title like that, what is not to love about Remington's 1100? This may explain why it has remained popular among bird hunters, Skeet shooters, and Trap Shooters since its introduction in 1963 through today.

Model 1100 History

The evolution of this shotgun started with the design of the Remington model 11-48, then the Model 58s and the 878s.

The original version of the Remington 1100 shotgun came out only in the 12 gauge in 1963, followed by the 16 gauge and 20 gauge in 1964, and finally the .410 gauge Remington 1100 in 1969. In 1970 a matched set came out in .410 gauge and 28 gauge.

Call or email Remington and give them the serial number, they will tell you when it was born, however keep in mind they do make errors.
Back up what they tell you with this information;
